NASHVILLE ALLIANCE TO INDUCT FOUR INTO NASHVILLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS HALL OF FAME

The Nashville Alliance for Public Education will induct four new members into the Nashville Public Schools Hall of Fame at an awards ceremony on March 4 at 6:30 p.m. at I.T. Creswell Middle Arts Magnet School.

The 2008 alumni inductees:
• Antonio M. Gotto, Jr., M.D., DPhil, dean of Weill Cornell Medical College
• Marynell Meadors, head coach and general manager of the Atlanta Women’s National Basketball Association franchise
• Earl Swensson, FAIA, chairman of the board of Earl Swensson Associates, Inc.

The 2008 Distinguished Service Award inductee:
• Bill Purcell, former Nashville mayor (1999-2007)

Created in 2005, the Nashville Public Schools Hall of Fame celebrates the successes of public education by honoring talented graduates of Metro Nashville Public Schools, as well as local leaders who have provided distinguished service to influence public school excellence.

“The success of these alumni of Metro public schools is a great example of the impact public education can have on a student’s life. We’re honored to recognize each inductee’s achievements,” said Orrin Ingram, chairman of the Alliance board of directors. “This event also gives us the opportunity to award a member of the community for his or her contributions to public education. Bill Purcell has brought education to the forefront of the community, making him an exemplary candidate for this award.”

The Alliance is a nonprofit organization dedicated to securing private resources to help improve Metro Nashville Public Schools. The Alliance seeks to fund programs and initiatives that are coordinated with the strategic priorities of the public school system.
