Success Stories

A set of 15 digital microscopes for a high school science class costs more than $11,000. It’s a basic tool for 21st century science, and the Alliance has raised enough money to put a set in six of 15 high schools. That’s progress, but we want to provide an opportunity for all students.

We’ve established an endowment fund to pay the entry fees and travel expenses of students who are on the debate team at Antioch High. Last year, each one of those students got a scholarship to college, so you can see why we want to grow that program and expand it to other high schools.

Reading is a top priority for the Alliance – we raise money for books in the classrooms, for library resources and for professional opportunities to help teachers improve their reading instruction.

Did you know a basic trumpet costs $406 and a baritone sax costs as much as $5,440? Many families can’t afford these instruments – but we know that 96% of students participating in music graduate from high school. To date, the Alliance has raised more than $2.5 million to fill the gap.

We raised $3.5 million to help build the Martin Professional Development Center, a state-of-the-art training facility dedicated to improving the quality of teaching in our public schools.

More than $4 million was raised by the Patricia C. and Thomas Frist, Jr. Foundation and the community to renovate Julia Green Elementary school for opening of the 2008 2009 school year.

The Alliance raises money to refurbish the athletic fields at middle and high schools, and partnered with Earl Swensson Associates to open a new playground at Joelton Elementary.
