June 2010
Dear Friends of Nashville Alliance for Public Education,
As the school year ends for 2009-2010, so will my term as the Board Chair for the Nashville Alliance. It’s been an amazing two years with so much progress for Alliance, including the completion of the Martin Professional Development Center, thousands of new musical instruments provided for our students by CMA, and millions of dollars raised for schools and school programs. It has been an honor to serve as Chair for an organization so integral to providing much-needed private funding for Nashville public schools and the 76,000 students they serve.
Of course, the accomplishments of the Alliance are the result of many dedicated individuals. Many thanks are due to the Alliance staff, and to the thousands of donors who have provided generous gifts of talent, money and time. I also want to thank my fellow board members for their dedication and generosity in making public education a priority in this city.
This year, an extra note of recognition goes to Pam Garrett, Executive Director of the Alliance. I am pleased to announce that Pam is the 2010 recipient of the E. Bronson Ingram Award presented by the PENCIL Foundation at their annual Bravo! breakfast on May 20. This prestigious award is a symbol of commitment and passion to improve public education in Metro Nashville. Congratulations, Pam!
As the final act of my term, I want to extend a warm welcome to Gregory L. Burns as the incoming Board Chair for the Alliance. Greg brings great leadership and experience to this position, and I am confident his leadership will help the Alliance prosper in the coming year.
